Marco Simoncelli, Marco Born Sic living from January 20, 1987, to October 23, 2011, was an Italian professional motorcycle racer. From 2002 to 2011, he participated in the MotoGP World Championship for ten years. Before advancing to the 250cc division in 2006, he began in the 125cc class. Along with Gilera, he took home the 2008 250cc World Championship. He moved up to the premier MotoGP class in 2010 after four years in the intermediate class, where he raced for the Honda Gresini Team. He lost his life in an accident at the Sepang 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix.

Although Marco Simoncelli was raised and spent his early years living in Coriano with his family, he was born in Cattolica. At the young age of nine in 1996, he advanced to the Italian Minimoto Championship after beginning minibike racing in his birthplace of Coriano at the age of seven.
